Health risks of being overweight
It’s no secret that the rate of
obesity is climbing to alarming rates throughout America
and around the world. The problem is that we are eating
much larger meals that are much more deficient in any real
nutritional value.
This leads to an increase in calories and an increase in
weight gain. While those who are obese may be mostly considered
about their outward appearance, there are much greater
health risks of being overweight. These are
just a few of the problems you could experience:
- Heart Disease and Stroke – These are
the leading causes of death for both men and women but
reducing your weight by as little as 10% can greatly
decrease your chances of heart disease and stroke. People
who are overweight are at an increased risk for heart
disease and stroke because they are most likely to also
suffer from high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and
angina.
- Diabetes – Those who are obese are
twice as likely to develop Type 2 diabetes, which prohibits
your body from being able to properly control its own blood
sugar levels. People who suffer from Type 2 diabetes are
also at an increased risk of early death, blindness, kidney
disease, and stroke.
- Cancer – People who are overweight are
also at a higher risk of contracting certain types of
cancers. These include: uterine, gallbladder, cervical,
ovarian, breast, colon, prostate, and rectum.
- Gallbladder Disease – Gallbladder
disease is more likely to strike those that are overweight
and the chance of getting gallbladder disease increases
with how much weight you gain.
- Sleep Apnea – Sleep apnea is a
disorder when one stops breathing while they are asleep.
This is a concern for those who are overweight because the
body can’t properly pump the blood to and from the
heart.
- Osteoarthritis – This is a condition
that causes excessive wearing on the joints and is
especially prone in overweight people. This is because
added weight places more pressure on the joints and causes
them to wear away and break down much more quickly.
Because of all of these health risks that are associated
with being overweight, the campaign is on more than ever to try
to get people to change their eating habits and make them aware
of the dangers of being overweight.
Of course we all know that eating a properly balanced diet
that’s rich in vitamins and minerals and low in fats and sugar
can go a long way, especially when combined with a regular
exercise program.
However, many people who are overweight find it very
difficult to find time to cook proper meals and exercise as
often as needed to lose a significant amount of weight.
This is why diet supplements and
natural diet pills are so
popular today. These supplements can greatly help you lose
weight and decrease your risk of any disease or condition
that’s associated with being overweight.
While diet supplements still need to be used in conjunction
with a proper diet and exercise, they can certainly give you
the boost you need to start losing weight, living healthier,
and feeling better about yourself!
